THE revolutionary party Zanu-PF has welcomed over 500 new and returning members in Hwange and Binga districts, among them former Victoria Falls mayor, Alderman Somvelo Dlamini and other politicians.

Former legislator for Binga North, Patrick Nene Sibanda, former Binga Rural District chairman Munkombwe Dube, incumbent Mbizha Ward councillor, Namo Chuma who won the 2023 elections on an independent ticket and other former councillors, were among the returnees.

The party’s National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradazi Machacha welcomed the new members, largely from opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, under the Kumusha/Home/Ekhaya programme being led by Cde Blessing Chebundo for the ruling party.

The new members were welcomed at Milonga in Hwange East on Saturday and Sonkaba in Hwange West on Sunday.

Hundreds of party supporters including Politburo member, Cde Alice Dube of Tsholotsho, Central Committee members and provincial leadership attended the event to witness the return of members who were welcomed by a carnival atmosphere.

“We are elated today as we welcome back our members who have been in opposition and have decided to come back. Zanu-PF is a party for people who love the country and are united, we are encouraged to have love for each other and work together,” said Cde Machacha.

Speaking one after the other, the returnees said they were happy to be back home and pleaded to be welcomed so they contribute to the growth of the party.

Alderman Dlamini said he was not joining Zanu-PF for positions but to contribute to the party.

“I am former mayor of Victoria Falls. I am not new to this place as I have come before with others, I promise to bring them to the party. My promise to national leadership, including the President, is to bring many people to come and join the party,” he said.

“There are a lot of former councillors who want to come and join. We are not coming here for positions but to build our country and defend the gains of the liberation struggle. My coming here is not a threat to anyone.”

The occasion also doubled as groundbreaking for Sonkaba Village Community Business Unit being jointly implemented by Buy a Brick Foundation and KHE as the party works hard to improve livelihoods towards an Upper Middle-Income Society by 2030. — @ncubeleon
