Chivi Rural District Council (RDC) has said it is on track to achieve the 100-day target in addressing the poor road network and water challenges throughout the district. More than $560 000 is needed for the projects.
The local authority was this year allocated $500 000 by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) for road rehabilitation and maintenance. The council had also set aside $60 000 for borehole drilling and servicing of other roads.
Chivi RDC Engineer Ronald Mushapa said council had “hit the ground running” and the local authority was set to complete its 100-day targeted projects by end of March.
“In our first 100 days of this year, our target is to drill six boreholes and rehabilitate 20 others. This will cost $28 000 and (we will) rehabilitate about 40 kilometres of road at a cost of about $32 000,” he said.
Eng Mushapa said despite the breakdown of equipment, they were optimistic of achieving their set target. According to Eng Mushapa, the Lundi-Runesu-Mutote Road in Ward 25 would be upgraded, along with other link roads in the district.
“When we receive the $500 000 from Zinara, we will cover another 300km of road network,” he said
Chivi RDC chief executive, Mr Tariro Matavire, said most of the planned projects had begun and would be completed within the set time frame.
“We are on track and very optimistic that we will complete the projects on time considering that civil works are already underway,” said Mr Matavire.
President Mnangagwa has set 100-day deliverables for line ministries, as he seeks to instil a new work ethic aimed at creating a new economic order in the country.
