ABOUT 58 organisations from across the globe have registered for Routes Africa 2014 to be hosted in Victoria Falls in June.
The event will be held from June 22 to 24.A team from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development and Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) last week met the local organising committee in the resort town as preparations moved a gear up.
Routes Africa brings together a wide range of aviation based companies and government representatives who wish to conduct business to, from and within the African region, and also draw interest from outside Africa.
Representing the Permanent Secretary of Transport Secretary Munesu Munodawafa, infrastructure director in the same ministry Norman Chifema, said the event will provide Victoria Falls an opportunity to measure its preparedness for the upcoming Sadc Summit in August.
“We are coming to you so we collaborate and showcase the diversity of our culture while at the same time portraying our country as a safe destination,” said Chifema.
He said fundraising activities were in progress while a number of performances’ had already been lined up for the event, including a performance by music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and a gold tournament among others. He said delegates, expected to number about 400, will start arriving a week before June 22.
Zimbabwe Council for Tourism representative Barbara Murasiranwa said hotel and tourism operators were ready to host the event.
Zimbabwe won the bid to host the event at last year’s edition in Kampala, Uganda.
