5kg dagga lands pair behind bars

Court Reporter
A Harare magistrate last Friday sentenced two men, caught with five kilogrammes of dagga, to 20 months each in prison. The magistrate Mr Milton Serima sentenced Cephas Sixpence (25) and Brighton Mhembere (27) to 24 months in prison, but suspended four months on condition of good behaviour.

Mr Serima said the pair committed a serious offence and deserved a custodial sentence.

“You were found in possession of five kilogrammes of dagga hence you deserve a penalty that will deter others from committing the same offence,” he said.

He said it was obvious that the dagga was not for personal use, but was destined for some place.

The prosecutor Ms Francesca Mukumbiri proved that on April 20 at around 10am at Delpot Road near Greenvalley area in Epworth, Cephas Sixpence and Brighton Mhembere were unlawfully found in possession of five black plastic bags with dagga weighing five kilogrammes in their vehicle.
