BULAWAYO Social Soccer League (BSSL) teams are set to lock horns today in the first round of the Founders Cup.
All eyes will be on Makokoba’s Makwee the defending Champions, who have already declared their desire to retain the trophy. They take on NJC at Mazayi.
Reigning league champions Emakhandeni United (Man U) will be out to assert their dominance in the league when they take on FC Pirates away at Rugby ground in Lobegula. The Founders Cup is held to honour the founding fathers of the league. It was initial set to be held on the National Youth day but had to be postponed due to water logged grounds.
Blessing Adolph Jonga the fixtures secretary, said all was set for the resumption of the tournament. He said from the 60 teams taking part, two best losers will join the 30 winners to make 32 teams in the next round
“We lost two match days, one being a league game and the other a cup due to the rains. This time around we are hoping it doesn’t rain much, such that our grounds become unplayable. As for our yearly programme we haven’t lost much time because we started a bit earlier this time and we will play catch up during upcoming holidays like Easter, Independence and Workers Day,” he said.
