67 structures set for demolition

A TOTAL of 67 structures in Mabelreign and nearby areas could be demolished after the Harare City Council issued demolition notices for all unauthorised land developments in the area.

The notices follow concerns raised last week that the areas were experiencing a surge in illegal land developments.

The notices were issued for areas in Mabelreign, Meyrick Park, Sentosa, Cotswold Hills, Ashdown Park, Haig Park, Greencroft, Sunridge, Bloomingdale, Maranatha, Sanganai, Tynwald, Lenana Park, Matidoda and Madokero

Ward 16 councillor, Denford Ngadziore, urged desperate home seekers to refrain from purchasing these stands without verification from the Mabelreign District Office.

“We have served them with demolition notices. Sixty-seven notices were served.

“Any development whether (on) private, State or Council land must get approval from Council.

“We urge residents and property owners to be vigilant and not be intimidated by land barons,” he said.
