Seven people died, while two others were injured in a road accident that occurred along the Masvingo-Beitbridge road near Rutenga in the early hours of Saturday, bringing to 14 the number of people who have died so far in traffic accidents following the commencement of the festive season.

Police’s festive season starts from December 15 to January 15.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police chief spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said a Munenzva bus, which was travelling from Beitbridge towards Masvingo with 42 passengers on board, hit a donkey and veered off the road to the right.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the bus rammed the rear right side of a trailer, which was being towed by a Mercedes-Benz omnibus travelling in the opposite direction resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.
