700hrs community service for teacher

Hurungwe Correspondent
A Karoi teacher has been ordered to perform 700 hours of community service for indecently assaulting four schoolgirls last November.
The teacher admitted to three counts of indecent assault.
Magistrate Mr Elisha Singano, however, convicted him on the other count after a full trial.
He was sentenced to 20 months in jail, which was suspended on condition he performs 700 hours of community service.
Prosecutor Mr Benjamin Negato proved his case on the last count beyond reasonable doubt.
It was proved that in November last year one of the girls approached the teacher in the school laboratory to find out how she had fared in an exam.
The teacher started caressing the girl and stopped when he heard some footsteps outside.
He handed his victim some question papers to study.
The teacher summoned the other three victims to the lab on different occasions and indecently assaulted them.
The crimes came to light last month when one of the girls reported the matter to a prefect who then informed school authorities.
The school made a police report leading to the teacher’s arrest.
