The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) has allocated Shurugwi Town Council about $784 000 for the rehabilitation of roads in the town.
Town council chairman Councillor Tsungai Makore said the release of the money was timely since most roads in the CBD were in a bad state.
“The contractor will be on the ground this month,” he said early this week.
“The rehabilitation will involve resealing and overlaying of the roads, which are in a sorry state.”
This, Clr Makore said, would be followed by the drawing of road markings and putting up of road signage.
“Road signs and markings will be done to complement the resealing of the roads since most of the markings are now faint and endangering road users, especially at night,” he said.
Clr Makore said they expected the rehabilitation programme to improve the image of the town.
He said the programme would also involve the installation of an additional 200 streets light to the 100 that were installed earlier this year.
“We also hope that the street lighting will protect motorists and pedestrians from muggings within the CBD and residential areas during the night.”
