8 teams battle it out in Tsholotsho tourney

EIGHT teams will compete in the inaugural Chief Mathuphula Football tournament at Tshino and Mathuphula Primary School grounds in Tsholotsho North today and tomorrow. The tournament will start at quarterfinal level with the final set for tomorrow at Mathuphula Primary School. Bongani Sibanda, the Mathuphula Sports Development Association chief executive officer said the eight teams have been split into two groups of four.

Sibanda said Group A will consist of Mathuphula, Mahlaba, Shooting Stars and Mahlosi, and will play at Tshino Primary School. Group B has Tshino, Sawudweni, Mako and Jimila, and will use Mathuphula Primary School grounds.

He said they were yet to finalise on the prizes, but revealed that Mathuphula Hunters, who have some hunting concessions in the area, had helped source some of the prizes. The tournament is expected grow next year with Mcetshwa, Sipepa and Kapane set to take part in the event.
