857 city employees honoured for years of service

The City of Harare rewarded long-serving employees at a 2024 Milestone Appreciation ceremony on Friday.

Those receiving awards had service ranging between 20 and 45 years.

In a speech read on his behalf by the city’s acting human capital director Bosman Matengarufu, acting town clerk Engineer Phakamile Mabhena Moyo said the gathering was a culmination of teamwork and collective efforts by council.

“For us to achieve our vision that works for everyone, we need to work as a team, so therefore, we have come to recognise the work and participation of our workforce.

”Council continues to use productivity-based management whereby a number of training sessions were done to capacitate the employees.

“We are therefore going to be tracking productivity matters at corporate, departmental, regional and district levels. This arrangement will certainly improve our service delivery,” he said.

The acting town clerk emphasised the crucial role of teamwork in achieving the city council’s vision of a functional and inclusive community.

He highlighted the council’s initiatives to support employees’ productivity, including training opportunities to enhance their skills.

“There is a clarion call for all of us to increase our revenue collection so that we can sustain our operations and improve on service delivery.

”This is further amplified by the dictates of the President’s Call to Action for local authorities to not compromise on service delivery.”
