Zvimba Rural District Council has issued a stern warning to the public against illegal land deals.
In a recent statement, the council announced plans to demolish all illegal structures in various affected areas, including Whitecliffe, Spitzkop, Nyabira, Heany, Rydale Ridge, Somerby, Murombedzi Rural Service Centre, Banket, Trelawney, Raffingora, and the Kutama/Chikambi communal area.
The council stressed that individuals illegally occupying land do so under the misguided belief that their structures will eventually be regularised.
“Members of the public are hereby strongly warned against illegally occupying the above areas under the false hope that their structures will be legalised,” the statement read.
“Besides losing hard-earned cash, anyone caught engaging in such illicit transactions shall be prosecuted, and all illegal structures shall be demolished.”
To ensure legitimate land development, the council stipulates that individuals must possess a subdivision permit, an approved layout plan, a development permit, a valid lease agreement, or communal land occupation certificates, in accordance with the RTCP Act.
Additionally, the council cautioned against engaging with individuals claiming to represent governmental institutions in land allocation matters.
“We implore the public to be wary of individuals purporting to sell stands, as these transactions are often fraudulent. Those caught participating in such illegal activities will face prosecution, and any structures deemed illegal will be demolished,” read the statement.
Moreover, it is essential for individuals to have duly approved building plans, with all construction stages requiring council approval in urban and peri-urban areas.
This warning reflects growing concerns among authorities about the impact of illegal land occupation on community safety and development.
