NINE Bulawayo boxing clubs will converge at the Highlanders Clubhouse on Saturday for a Summer Boxing Tournament.

The competition, hosted by Highlanders Sports Club in conjunction with the Bulawayo Boxing Association (BBA), will see pugilists from Tshaka, HQ 1 Brigade, Sikhulile High School, Nketa, Nkulumane, Lobengula, Magwegwe, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) and Bulawayo West exchanging blows in various categories.

BBA treasurer Anderson Sibanda said the association will use the competition to scout for talent that will represent Bulawayo province in the Champion of Champions national tournament set for December 1 in Hwange.

“Everything is on course to make this tournament a success. This tournament will give the association an opportunity to select a team that will compete in the Champion of Champions tournament in Hwange.

“We call upon boxing fans to come in numbers and support our local talent. As Bulawayo boxing we are happy with the support we have been getting from local fans and we trust they will come in numbers to watch some interesting bouts,” said Sibanda.

Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) technical director Stephen Masiyambumbi said he is happy with how the sport is developing in the country.

“We have been having a number of competitions lately as we want to keep our boxers fi t and groom as much talent as we can. This is a very crucial tournament as the province wants to build a team that will represent us at the national competition in Hwange.

Bulawayo has been a hive of boxing activity and boxing fans must brace for some interesting rounds,” Masiyambumbi said.
