93 000 families in need of food relief

hunger-stricken villagers will receive maize from GMB depots cross the province. Masvingo provincial administrator, Mr Felix Chikovo, yesterday said drought relief committees were revived throughout the seven administrative districts. Mr Chikovo said the families will each receive a 50 kg bag of maize from Government.

“We have already started the distribution of the drought relief to those in need of food aid and a total of about 19 300 tonnes of maize will be required until the next harvest,” said Mr Chikovo.
Masvingo Governor and Resident Minister Cde Titus Maluleke described last year’s harvests as a disaster after 75 percent of the crop was declared a complete write-off.
