A WOMAN is demanding US$50 000 in rentals from her ex-husband – 35 years after their divorce.
Chenai Gupo, 60, is demanding the money from her ex-husband, Shadreck Chauri, 65, claiming it has accrued from rentals over the years.
The pair divorced in 1989.
Gupo claimed she entered into a verbal agreement with Chauri that he would use their matrimonial home and pay rentals to her but he never paid a cent.
“After the divorce, we agreed he would stay and pay me rent, which he never did.
“He does not allow our son to come near the premises and accuses me of harassing him whenever I claim the money,” said Gupo.
Chauri said the claim was baseless.
“When we separated the court ruled that I was the rightful owner of the property.
“I was shocked to see her making the demands recently, it’s been 35 years since our divorce and she now claims I owe her such a huge amount.
“She is now disturbing my peace and on November 4, she took US$100 from one of my tenants causing confusion at my house.

“I want the court to stop her from collecting rentals from my tenants,” he said.
Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in Chauri’s favour, granting him a five-year peace order which bars Gupo from collecting rentals from the property.
