HOLLYWOOD make-up artist, Jacqueline Mgido, has launched an initiative to support underprivileged women in Epworth.
Mgido has set up a portable brow threading bar, with 10 women trained to provide threading and brow drawing services.
Kits and clothing have been donated to support the initiative, which has been embraced by locals.
Mgido said she is “looking forward to seeing more women empowered and able to provide for themselves”.
The project is partly funded by community donations and Mgido called on others to support the scheme.
“These women’s lives will never be the same again.
“Using the knowledge they are gaining here, they will go around threading brows and selling brow pens.
“We are providing them with the skills and the kit required for them to start their own brow threading bar,” Mgido said.
The women were in disbelief when they had their brows done.
Mgido joined hands with businesswoman, Zodwa Mkandla, to raise the capital required to buy the ladies’ kits for their threading bars.
“This is just the beginning and l am looking forward to seeing more women empowered and able to provide for themselves,” said Mgido.
The women welcomed the initiative.
“All my life I only knew one way of doing brows; trimming them to a very thin line, which most saloons in my area offer, but Jacque has made me see a different light.
“When we go back to our communities, we will change the way other women look at themselves,” said one of the women.
Another beneficiary, Beauty, was grateful for the opportunity.
“Being presented with such an opportunity is a dream come true for us.
“I will use this opportunity well and will not disappoint those who have extended their hands to help us,” she said.
