AT least 12 people were injured and taken to hospital amid chaotic scenes at Jongwe Corner Chinhoyi on Sunday during a performance by South Africa-based Zimbabwean Amapiano queen Sha Sha.

It was Sha Sha’s maiden performance in the historic town.

Police are now investigating the incident.

Management at the joint, which has been attracting some of the finest local and South African musicians, believe some local rivals were behind the chaos.

Scores of thugs caused chaos during the show leaving a number of revellers with both physical and psychological scars.

Reports indicate that the 12 injured revellers were taken to hospital.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, told H-Metro police were investigating the case.

“We are investigating the case to find the motive of the attack.

“If the police were not involved, we want to find out the person behind the attack,” he said.

Initial reports suggested that teargas was tossed into the crowd but it is still to be established if this was a reaction from the police.

Jongwe Corner Manager, David Mupambi, said he suspected some rivals were behind the fracas.

“This is clear sabotage. It happened in a packed house, which was unacceptable,” he said.

Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Collect Mawire, confirmed that some patients came and were treated and discharged.

“I can confirm that some patients came complaining of injuries but were treated and discharged except one patient who was heavily intoxicated, and we had to monitor him and he slept overnight,” he said.

One of the injured fans, who spent the night in hospital, told H-Metro he can’t remember what happened.

“I fainted and woke up in hospital.

“I just got discharged on Monday,” he said.

Jongwe Corner has been hosting high-profile gigs in recent weeks, which management at the joint believe might have irked some of their competitors in the Mashonaland West capital.
