Swag Mama Cool Talk Me Up
All external school examination results are out and the picture does not look good. Even though there are many excellent results, too many students have failed from grade seven to A Level.
So I know that there are many teens who feel as though they have come to the end of their lives. There is the great disappointment of failing to make it. Then there is the embarrassment of being the butt of all jokes as it feels as though the whole world is just laughing at you.
As if that is not enough, there is also the despair at watching your friends and mates proceed to the next level while you are still stuck in the same place. And maybe you feel it is all unfair because you worked harder than some of those people who passed.
It is very easy to get into a space where you feel that you are worthless. You also feel that there is no point in trying to do anything because in spite of all your efforts, you still fail anyway.
Stop and reflect a bit. So you have failed your exams, you have fallen and that is not a good thing. But it does not mean that you are useless in life. There are many things that you are good at and what you need to do right now is to dust yourself up and start afresh.
Perhaps you can re-register and write again. Or maybe that is not an option because your results are really awful and the academic route is just not for you, or maybe you cannot afford to re-write the exams.
But there are other choices. What are you good at? How can you create a fulfilling career for yourself in that field where your abilities lie? There are many vocational colleges that train youngsters in skills that do not particularly require academic excellence.
And there are many roads to the top. With many open universities in the country, you can work for a while then still go on to get a degree through mature entry.
Do not consider your failure to pass exams as a death sentence for your ambitions. Think of it as a milestone that has shown you your capacity and educated you on how life is really about striving to get what you want.
You can do it, if you want to.
