A King is Born favourite

Harare Bureau
FORMER  OK Grand Challenge champion A King is Born will be the favourite when 18 runners line up for the 26th edition of the prestigious horse race at Borrowdale Park this afternoon. The seven-year-old gelding, who came second, missing out by half a length in the Castle Tankard, returns to the stalls carrying a favourable weight and a better draw.

The former champion is carrying a light weight of 53 kgs and drawn third out of 18 going into this race and it will be almost the same field as the Castle Tankard.

The race also has defending champion Genepri who will face stiff competition from 17 other entries who include Castle Tankard winner Equina.
Equina, carrying the same weight as the pre-tournament favourite at 53kgs, can also pool a surprise as the best filly in the country.

King Kahal, who will have Kevin Derere, will come with a good draw of seven.
Mashonaland Turf club racing manager Robson Chinamasa said the stage was set for the big event and hopes the best horse on the day wins.

“All is now in place for this family event and I hope the best runner will come out victorious. We expect a very competitive race,” said Chinamasa.
