KEY stakeholders in the sports industry and business in Manicaland are keen to play their part in fomenting the aspirations of the ambitious Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF) project and a proposed provincial steering committee was put in a place last week on Saturday.

The committee, whose structures and parameters of operations will soon be mapped, comprises of Golden Peacock Villa Hotel general manager, Adonis Mutigwe, Mutare junior football ensemble MAJESA director and owner, Charles Chave, The Big Rock Logistics proprietor, Blessing Mangwiro and OK Mart manager, Bridget Ali, who represented her employer at the meeting.

Ndunduzo Sibanda, vice-chairman of the foundation, said: “The Foundation was formed in 2019 and it is premised on the social and economic aspects of the communities we live in. Marvelous Nakamba naturally becomes the founder. Marvelous saw it fit to give back to the communities he grew up in. He understands what his brothers and sisters need to further their talents.

“We have grown big much as we are still growing and we have covered five provinces in educational assistance programme. We launched the Under 17 boys’ soccer tournament in 2019, which MAJESA eventually won. It is our flagship programme as a Foundation.

“We are here to engage each other to find ways of playing our different roles in fulfilling the aspirations of the Foundation. We believe we hold a brand that the sports and business community here in Manicaland leverage on.

“Marvelous has been in Europe since 2014, where he played in four different leagues in France, Netherlands, Belgium and now England. We are in a good space to partner stakeholders in Manicaland.”

Mangwiro, who was tasked to lead the initiative on interim basis, said: “We are so thrilled by the engagement with the Nakamba Foundation. Who does not want to be associated with a taintless brand like Nakamba? It is yet another opportunity to help social development of our community as Manicaland.”

Other members of the Foundation who were present at the meeting include Business Strategist, Training and Programmes coordinator, Simeon Tembo, Marvelous Nakamba’s look-alike, Marvelous Dube, who is the research and development coordinator and Ogly Ncube, the administrator and Marvelous Nakamba’s father, Anthony.
