A PAIR OF NEW BUSINESSMEN IN THE PSL

Sports Reporter

THE story of businessmen who have injected their fortunes into domestic football is as old as the game itself.

The Hall of Fame has pioneers like Gijima Msindo, John Nyamasoka, Ronnie Chihota, Joel Salifu, Lecture Mpange, Ginger Chiguwa, Forbes Chitava and Joe Musenda.

They opened a path for others to follow suit. This group includes Delma Lupepe, Twine Phiri, Farai Jere, Eric Rosen, Solomon Mugavazi and Joel Sengeredo.

Right now the game is benefitting from the investment being done by the likes of Scott Sakupwanya, whose Scottland have just won the league championship, and Simba Ndoro, whose club won the title last season.

Prophet Magaya has also been sponsoring Yadah for more than half-a-decade now. There will be a new crop of investors in the Castle Lager Premiership next season after two of the clubs, which booked their places in the top-flight league, were bankrolled by two businessmen.

Malvern Moyo, a businessman with interests in Mashonaland Central, made history when he became the owner of a club in Mt Darwin to guide his team into the domestic Premiership.

Moyo owns Agama FC, who won the Northern Region Division One championship on the final day of the season after their main rivals, N’ombeyaora, collapsed at the final hurdle.

He is also the second businessman from the province to lead his club into the Premiership, following the footsteps of Ndoro.  Another businessman, Shepherd Chahwanda, has also guided his Hardrock into the domestic Premiership.

His team edged Sheasham, which is also bankrolled by a businessman, to the sole ticket into the PSL.

Chahwanda has already demonstrated that he is in the game to make a big difference by building a stadium in Kwekwe which many are saying is the most beautiful football facility in the country.
