THIS week we feature the newly built Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — a true marvel of architectural and landscaping genius.
Its gardens are nothing short of extraordinary, crafted with precision and attention to detail.
The perfection outside cascades
seamlessly into the temple’s interior, creating a unified sense of beauty and reverence.
The landscaper employed the power of repetition, using long beds of the same plants to allow each species to fully showcase its beauty.
Flowering plants, in particular, create breathtaking displays.
Strelitzia reginae, the bird of paradise, makes a striking impression, especially when viewed from afar.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global faith with millions of members gathering in over 31 000 congregations across 190 countries.
The temple’s landscape design, completed by Uys and White, features hardy, locally sourced plants that thrive in Harare’s climate.
Royal palms (roystonea regia) lend height and prestige to the grounds, while lush lawns add another dimension of artistry.
The majestic cycad (cycas revoluta) shines like a king in a palace garden, complemented by the delicate white blooms of dietes species.
Both exotic and indigenous ground covers combine to create a one-of-a-kind garden in Harare.
The paving is executed to perfection — something you must see in person to truly appreciate.
The temple itself evokes the grandeur of the biblical Temple of Solomon, standing as a testament to faith, craftsmanship and beauty.
