A nation’s path is undeniably determined by the character and the vision of its leadership.
Under President Mnangagwa’s guidance, Zimbabwe has undergone a transformative journey that, in many respects, has exceeded expectations.
As 23 August edges closer — marking our next election — it’s time for us as Zimbabweans to reflect on the significant strides made under President Mnangagwa’s leadership. Our vote in this upcoming election serves as the most profound expression of gratitude we can offer, acknowledging the progress we have made and affirming our commitment to the journey that lies ahead.
When President Mnangagwa assumed office in 2017, he inherited a nation that had been isolated on the global stage. Under his administration, Zimbabwe has emerged from this isolation through a proactive and strategic “Engagement and Re-engagement” policy. This policy has effectively mended our diplomatic relations, carving out a place for Zimbabwe on the international stage once more.
Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe has experienced a remarkable resurgence on the international stage. One of the major challenges he inherited upon assuming office was navigating the complex issue of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western countries.
However, through a series of well-thought-out and successfully implemented policies, President Mnangagwa has managed to minimise the detrimental effects of these sanctions, thereby restoring Zimbabwe’s standing in the global community.
President Mnangagwa’s approach has been multi-faceted. By engaging directly with the international community, he has been able to clarify misunderstandings and present Zimbabwe’s case on various global platforms. His proactive engagement strategy has not only fostered better relations but also opened avenues for constructive dialogue, a significant shift from the previous era of isolation.
In terms of domestic challenges, President Mnangagwa faced an energy crisis marked by frequent power outages. Under his leadership, Zimbabwe has seen significant improvements in its energy situation, ensuring a reliable power supply for our homes and industries. He also tackled the fuel shortages, which had long been a source of inconvenience and economic disruption.
Thanks to his administration’s effective strategies, the fuel supply is now secure, ensuring smooth operations across various sectors.

Under President Mnangagwa’s watch, Zimbabwe has turned a corner in agriculture, moving from a nation heavily dependent on wheat imports to one that celebrates bumper harvests. This transformation is a testament to the policies and support extended to our farmers, contributing significantly to our food security and economic resilience.
The infrastructural milestones achieved under President Mnangagwa’s tenure, including the completion of the New Parliament Building and the expansion of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, have bolstered our national pride and symbolise the progress made under his watch.

Notably, President Mnangagwa has fostered a significant shift towards more openness and democracy in Zimbabwe. He has shown exceptional leadership by extending an olive branch to political opponents through the creation of the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad). This platform allows for the exchange of ideas, encouraging bipartisan co-operation and putting Zimbabwe’s interests above party politics.
One of the most striking transformations under President Mnangagwa’s leadership has been the media landscape. More independent television and radio stations now operate freely in Zimbabwe, a testament to President Mnangagwa’s commitment to uphold freedom of expression and the media’s role in a democratic society.

This media transformation has made news more accessible to all citizens, fostering a more informed and engaged population.
President Mnangagwa is a leader with a big heart, who views the success of Zimbabwe and its citizens as his own. This paternal approach to leadership, coupled with his dedication to seeing Zimbabwe thrive, has significantly shaped our national journey.
As the upcoming election draws near, it is crucial that we acknowledge these achievements. Our vote is more than a mark on a ballot paper; it’s an endorsement of the progress we’ve made and a statement of hope for the future.
A vote for President Mnangagwa on 23 August, 2023, serves as a collective “Thank You” for the path he has paved. It is a vote for continued progress, enhanced international relations, and robust infrastructural development.
It is a vote for a self-sufficient, inclusive, and sustainably developing Zimbabwe.
Let us come together on 23 August to express our gratitude. Let us thank President Mnangagwa with our votes — for prioritising Zimbabwe over party politics, for leading us towards self-sufficiency, for fostering media freedom, and for being a leader with a vision and a big heart.
Let’s thank him for shaping a resilient and prosperous Zimbabwe.
