A win will motivate us: Mugeyi

FORMER Warriors striker Wilfred “Silver Fox” Mugeyi hopes his AmaZulu side will turn things around when they face Absa Premiership side Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout Cup competition at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban today.The directors of the club have taken a decision to put Wilfred Mugeyi in charge as caretaker coach for Telkom Knockout Cup match against Celtic due to poor form and safety concerns.

Craig Rosslee’s contract with AmaZulu remains in existence until a decision around the situation has been reached.

The former South African Premier Soccer Star of the Year said that he was not bothered about their present league performances and the focus was to do well in the cup game, which he believed a win would motivate the team.

Mugeyi, who is the team’s assistant coach, says all the preparations were going  smoothly and the players were available  for selection including his two countrymen Tapuwa Kapini and Carlington Nyadombo.

The former Black Aces hitman told Chronicle Sport: “We will beat Celtic and capitalise on home advantage. We are busy assessing some few loopholes which might work against us.

“Everyone is looking forward to the cup game even the supporters say we must bring the cup home.”

Mugeyi said he has a good relationship with the team’s coach Craig Rosslee.

“Rosslee is a great coach who loves his work. It’s a pity that results have been against him but we hope all will change soon.”

In the league AmaZulu are at the bottom of the table with seven games played this  season.

Mugeyi played for Black Aces, Umtata Bush Bucks alongside his twin brother William Mugeyi.

He also played for Ajax  Cape Town and had stints in China and Israel.

Tonight Onismor Bhasera’s Bidvest Wits are at home to Moroka Swallows at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.
