A 24-year-old Inyathi man has been jailed for 18 years after being convicted of raping a 31-year-old woman twice on the same night.
The man from Mhlotshwana Village was convicted on two counts of rape by the Tredgold Regional Court in Bulawayo.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the offences were committed on June 6 this year.
“The offender from Mhlotshwana Village in Inyathi was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted on two counts of rape,” said the NPAZ.
“On the night of 6 June 2026, he went to the residence of a 31-year-old victim in Mhlotshwana Village where he threatened both the victim and her boyfriend. As the victims attempted to flee, the offender captured and dragged the victim into a nearby bush, where he raped her,” said the authority.
The court heard that the man returned to assault the woman again during the same night.
“The offender proceeded to rape the victim a second time during the same night. The matter was subsequently reported to police, and the complainant was referred to the hospital for medical examination, leading to the offender’s arrest and subsequent conviction,” said the NPAZ.
The prosecution authority said it remained committed to bringing perpetrators of sexual abuse and gender-based violence to justice.
It said offenders would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
