Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) is excited to announce that from 2016 it will be offering a two-year part-time CTA programme in Bulawayo in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ). This new development is in line with CAA national mandate to give opportunities to all hardworking, driven aspiring Chartered Accountants aspirants to achieve their dreams. All prospective students who are holders of Accounting Degrees and leading professional courses (ACCA, CIS & CIMA) are eligible to apply and register for the CTA programme and work towards the attainment of the coveted and respected Chartered Accountant Zimbabwe CA(Z) professional status on a part-time study basis to accommodate work commitments during the day.
CAA is the only institution in Zimbabwe accredited by ICAZ to offer the CTA course on both a full-time and part-time basis. The academy has been offering the CTA qualification since 2013 on a full-time study basis and works in collaboration with The University of Witwatersrand of South Africa. The University was roped in to provide the much-needed support, ensure consistency in quality of resources and enhance the international appeal and recognition of graduates. CAA has been taking the leading role in the lecturing and training of both prospective and qualified Chartered Accountants since 2011.
As an organisation, CAA’s goal has always been to contribute to the growth of the profession through opening doors for those who are looking to pursue the Chartered Accountancy qualification. CAA thrives to nature and empower prospective CA(Z)s towards the attainment of the CA (Z) qualification at the highest global standard.
Lectures for the part-time CTA will beoffered in blocks in Harare and Bulawayo from 2016 onwards. CAA will provide tuition to Bulawayo part time CTA students by way of study school sessions for all the subjects. There will also be an exam centre for students in Bulawayo. General Requirements
To become a Chartered Accountant in Zimbabwe one is required to complete a comprehensive and robust educational training program coupled with professional experience that is obtained by serving articles of clerkship within an ICAZ accredited training office (ATO). There are several of these ATOs in Zimbabwe both inside and outside the auditing practice. A list of these ATOs can be obtained from the ICAZ website www.icaz.org.zw
TERTIARY STUDIES:
Accounting Degree
If one is a holder of an accounting degree they can then progress to do the Certificate of Theory in Accounting (CTA) with CAA. Depending on the degree class and the period that has lapsed from the time you graduated you will be eligible for either the fulltime or the two year part time program.You can enrol for CTA before you obtain any practical work experience.
Professional Qualifications
Good news for all those with professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, and CIS. With a full qualification you are eligible to go straight into the CTA part time programme. Those who have attained ACCA F9 and have completed the Oxford Brookes University degree can also be admitted into the two year CTA program. Any other accounting qualification will have to be assessed on a case by case basis in order for you to be admitted into the CTA program.
The Initial Test of Competence (ITC) (Previously Board 1)
The next step up the ladder is to sit for professional examinations starting with the ITC examination. Having completed and passed the CTA qualification, one becomes eligible to sit for the ITC. No practical work experience is required for a student to be allowed to sit for the ITC. This is an ICAZ examination which leads to APC.
The Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) Examinations
The entry requirements to the APC examinations are as follows:
Passed the ITC exam
Be under a training contract through an ATO for more than 20 months or have completed the training.
Successfully completed the Professional Competence Development Programe.
On successful completion of the APC exams and after training records have been discharged by the ATO, one can then apply to become a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe. After which one can use the designation CA(Z).
