CHITUNGWIZA football Academy, Meridian Sports Academy, are happy that one of their products has managed to make it into Europe. Meridian, who practice at Zengeza Two grounds, were once home to Tanaka Chinyahara, a Zimbabwe footballer who now plays for Hobro IK in Denmark.
Spokesperson of the Academy, which caters for players from the Under-10, Under-15 and Under-17s, Bongani Marechera, said they were happy with the pool of talent and they will continue identifying more players.
“We are happy with the progress the youngster is making after he was part of us as he was growing up. We wish him well in his career,” said Marechera. Chinyahara was part of the Hobro IK reserve team that won 2-0 against Silas Songani’s SønderjyskE at the weekend.
Hibro IK is also home to Quincy Antipas and Ronald Pfumbidzai. Chinyahara began his football career at a young age before he joined Kaizer Chiefs Juniors in South Africa. He left the club in 2010 and moved to join Bidvest Wits juniors where he was under the guidance of former Zimbabwe international Charles Yohane.
He played in South Africa for five years and, having impressed scouts from Hobro, the midfielder was invited for trials in Sweden where he impressed the technical team.
He was signed by the club on a one-year contract on the basis and is likely to be given another two-year deal.
