Mbulelo Mpofu in Ntabazinduna
Ntabazinduna in Matabeleland North province is renowned for its historical and cultural significance, featuring majestic mountains that inspire awe and wonder.
Tucked away in the Bhekeni Luthi area B of Ntabanzinduna, Acaja Chillspot is a hidden gem offering adventure and entertainment.
Located 33km away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Bulawayo, Acaja Chillspot has the potential to become the ultimate adventure hub for fun lovers in and around the area.
From the thrill of beach soccer and volleyball to the challenge of mini-golf and single pole basketball, there is something for every adventurer.
The joint is a haven for children, featuring a playground equipped with swings, see-saws, merry-go-rounds, trampolines and a variety of other games. Adults can engage in strategic games like chess, draughts and darts, as well as mini indoor basketball and intsoro, creating unforgettable memories with family and friends.
Acaja Chillspot proprietor, Abednico Dube said he wants to make his joint the go-to-spot.
“We opened our doors to patrons last month and there’s no turning back. Patrons can indulge in a plethora of activities that will keep them on the edge of their seats. We want them to forget their woes while they are here,” he said.
When Chronicle Showbiz visited the place, site manager Langelihle Nyathi was actively assisting patrons as they settled in. The friendly staff fired up the braai and cooked up a storm!
One of the patrons, Ludwic Moyo said visiting Acaja was worth his while.
“I’m glad that I scrolled on Facebook and came across this place. I don’t regret coming to enjoy with my friends. I was overly impressed with their friendly staff who are welcoming and make you feel at home.
“Also, the availability of indigenous games like intsoro endeared me to the place because I’m a huge fan of those. I prefer them over these Westernised ones,” he said.
Dube mentioned that a list of themed programmes will be curated at Acaja and expansion plans are underway to offer camping facilities, enhancing the diverse experiences available to patrons.
Notably, Acaja Chillspot is home to the late Elvis Nyathi’s wife, Nomsa Tshuma who works there as a cook. Nyathi was killed in South Africa two years ago, allegedly by a mob searching for criminals and illegal foreign nationals who they accused of committing crimes in Johannesburg.
She told Chronicle Showbiz that the establishment has been a life changer for her.
“Life gets hard sometimes, especially after what happened to my husband two years ago. To me, Acaja Chillspot has been heaven-sent because it’s the source of livelihood for my children.
“It’s also an escape route from life’s troubles, and I thank Mr Dube for the opportunity because when I’m here, I forget all my worries and focus on making our patrons happy,” shared Tshuma. – @MbuleloMpofu
