Accident victim identified

The body had spent nearly three months at Nyaradzo funeral parlour in Harare before being positively identified last week.

Inspector Tineyi Matake yesterday said Kadzere’s relatives approached police in Harare, leading to the positive identification of Kadzere after reading an article that appeared in The Herald last Tuesday. The article revealed that the body of one of the 21 victims of the Megalink bus crash had not yet been claimed and identified.
This was after a fraudster using an identity card belonging to Allen Mapuranga had falsely claimed that Kadzere’s body belonged to Loice Mapuranga, who the suspect alleged to be his sister. The fraudster then successfully collected US$510 provided by Megalink Bus Company as burial assistance and also collected a further US$200 from Government before vanishing.

Kadzere’s husband, Mr Blessing Muchi-ngami, said his wife left home on April 15 for South Africa and never returned, prompting them to make a report of a missing person to police.

Mr Muchingami said his family had not bothered to check on the victims of the Megalink bus crash after getting the impression that all the victims had been positively identified.

“My wife left home for South Africa on April 15 in the evening and we never heard from her ever since and efforts to reach her on her mobile phone were also unsuccessful,” he said.
