Teachers at B&P Study Centre in Chitungwiza received a major boost on Tuesday after they were given 49 stands in Manyame Park, Seke, worth more than US$3 000 each by the college founder and owner, Reverend Bigboy Gawa.Speaking during the handover of the stands to the teachers, Reverend Gawa said it was imperative that teachers are rewarded for their hard work.
“This gesture that we are witnessing today is an appreciation of the work being done by the members of this college and we are now repaying them for their unwavering support that they have done for the college since 2006,” said Reverend Gawa.
Rev Gawa took the opportunity to appeal to the Government to enact a law which compels students at tertiary collegesto wear uniforms to curb indiscipline.
“I would want to appeal to the Government to come with a law which will see all colleges having a uniform in a bid to curb indiscipline among students; they are now taking advantage of plain clothes to engage in immoral activities during lesson times thereby dragging colleges in the mud,” said the man of the cloth.
One of the recipients, Elias Mhandu, said he was overwhelmed by the gesture which he said will go a long way in motivating them to ensure better results for the students.
“We would like to thank Reverend Gawa for giving us these stands. This is an opportunity for us to be landlords. Such appreciation from college owners will motivate us as teachers to work with zeal. It will motivate us as teachers in executing our duties without being worried about rents in the long run,” said Mhandu.
The owner of the Chitungwiza Study Centre promised to build cottages for the beneficiaries as short-term measure to alleviate housing problems that the teachers are facing. The development comes at a time most teachers in the country have been engaging the Government in a bid to improve their conditions of service.
