A 30-YEAR-OLD Epworth man has been brought to court facing two counts of malicious damage to property and criminal insult.

Tafadzwa Rusike was remanded in custody until December 9 when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

He is now demanding US$500 000 from the State for detaining him without reason.

The magistrate ordered Tafadzwa to undergo a mental health examination after he showed some disorders when he was brought to court.

The court heard that Tafadzwa was in the habit of taking strong drugs, which then caused him to be violent towards his grandmother, Gladys Rusike.

It is also alleged Tafadzwa was in the habit of evicting his grandmother from her place of residence, whenever he got drunk.

The court heard that Tafadzwa also insulted the old woman using a string of obscenities.

“Whenever he is drunk, he insults me with vulgar language.

“On November 17, Tafadza was under the influence of drugs and damaged my solar panel and further threatened to kill me,” said Gladys.

However, Tafadzwa denied ever taking drugs.

“Crystal meth is the last thing I would take, I hate it.

“Actually, I have bipolar disorder and these people (family) are actually interfering with my business.

“They hid my passport trying to bar me from leaving for South Africa where I am a disc jockey,” said Tafadzwa.

Zebedia Bofu led the State.
