THE Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) has rapped MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s statement that the just-ended harmonised elections were null and void, saying this is mere politicking and political grandstanding. Speaking at a Press briefing in Harare yesterday, ACCZ spokesperson Bishop Tichaona Maume said Mr Tsvangirai’s statement lacked substance.
“The statement made by Tsvangirai should not be taken seriously and is just a mere threat meant to incite unrest,” he said.
Head of delegation of the ACCZ election observer technical committee, Overseer Leonard Kavhu, said Zimbabweans should remain calm after the polls. “As the church our message is that people should desist from violence after the elections. We are praying for peace.
ACCZ hailed the peaceful environment in which the elections were held.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation Supporters Association (Zinalisa) congratulated Zanu-PF for resoundingly winning the elections.
In a statement, the association’s president, Cde Collins Gabriel Chipare said Zinalisa was celebrating together with the revolutionary party following its landslide victory in the polls.
“Our detractors are flabbergasted, they thought that Zimbabweans have very short memories and have forgotten that they won their independence and democracy through blood, sweat, tears and sacrifices,” Cde Chipare said.
He said the illegal sanctions that were imposed on Zimbabwe should be removed immediately. “We do hope that the unjustified sanctions will be lifted immediately,” he said
The Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe also commended the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed during the polls and preference given to disadvantaged women at various polling stations across the country.
WCoZ spokesperson, Mrs Netsai Mushonga said Zimbabwe held the elections in the context of a new constitution which affirms women’s equal participation in decision making.
