Acting Prosecutor-General Mr Kumbirai Hodzi has called on Chitungwiza Magistrates‘ Court to put its house in order to help the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) deliver high quality justice and unearth high-profile scandals.
Addressing prosecutors’ concerns at the court, Mr Hodzi said that prosecutorial misconduct must be a thing of the past.
“As the ultimate protectors of the law, we cannot allow that failing on our part and we will make sure that you are a professional, efficient and robust prosecutorial service.
“There is a need to look at the economic airtime that we must allocate to all the prosecutors because we do not want the administration of justice to be compromised.
Mr Hodzi promised to respond to the prosecutors’ concerns and grievances saying the working conditions of prosecutors must be able to yield positive results in the society.
“We are not going to be whining. We are not going to be complaining, we want to address our issues in a constructive manner,” he said.
Some of the concerns raised included unavailability of station vehicles, inadequate toilet facilities, a library facility, lack of internet, telephones and furniture among others.
Mr Hodzi said that by Tuesday next week there should be a transformation at the court including new furniture.
“If by Tuesday there are no new toilet seats, new doors and new tiles at the end of the day, somebody is going to be in trouble,” said Mr Hodzi.
Chitungwiza area public prosecutor Mr Andrew Kumire expressed his gratitude for the Prosecutor-General’s visit.
“This is a good development it shows us that our Prosecutor-General has our interests at heart. The last time we had a visitor from a Prosecutor-General was way back,” said Mr Kumire.
