John Witherspoon, an actor and comedian best known for his role as Willie Jones in the “Friday” film franchise, passed away yesterday at age 77.
His family released a statement confirming his death; “It is with deep sadness we have to tweet this, but our husband & father John Witherspoon has passed away. He was a Legend in the entertainment industry, and a father figure to all who watched him over the years. We love you ‘POPS’ always & forever.”- The Witherspoon Family
It’s not yet clear at this moment as to what the cause of his death was.
The actor who was popularly known as “Pops” has been on numerous movies such as Friday, Soul Plane, Little Man, Black Jesus, Little Nicki and TV series, The Boondocks and The Wayans Bros. He is survived by his wife, Angela, and sons JD and Alexander.
His son, JD wrote a heartfelt tribute to his late date. – Online
