ONE of the city’s top private schools, ACT’V, has committed to churn the best out of learners in full support of the Heritage Education 5.0.
The ACT’V group runs Angels Primary, Tshebetshebe Elementary, Cana Primary School and V Mhlophe High Schools which are all located in the western suburbs.
Statistics from the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (Zimsec) reveal that all these schools have managed to score high points in national examinations, registering pass rates impressive pass rates in the past three years.
V Mhlophe High had its first Advanced Level examination class in 2023 and managed to register a 75 percent pass rate.
As the third term in the schools calendar opens this week, the institution’s Schools Coordinator Mr Themba Ndwalaza said they were confident their examination classes will pass with flying colours, given the many hours put in preparations.
He said all their schools embraced Government’s Education 5.0 system, saying it has put paid to producing the best learners, who have gone on to be resourceful in societal and economic development. Some of their learners who have joined their parents in the diaspora have made many success stories both in academics and sports.

“Our schools were established a few years ago and I must say that we are on a path to play a huge role in the country’s education sector. We have witnessed tremendous improvements in our academic side, as our Zimsec pass rates will reveal,” said Mr Ndwalaza.
Mr Ndwalaza said they have fostered a culture of competition and competence which has seen their learner, teachers and non-teaching staff adapting well into the philosophy.
“Our strategy hinges on competition as a tool. In whatever we do, we compete amongst ourselves, as individual schools and also do the same with schools in the districts and nationally. ACT’V has a broad vision to be recognised as the best board of learning institutions at all levels nationally and internationally. We also aim at establishing competent standards. The vision is that by 2025, ACT’V Group of Schools is known internationally for its best educational service. If you look at our pass rates, we are in the top five in our respective districts across Bulawayo.
“Above all, our teachers are committed to bring out the best in a child. So far we have managed to build good relationships with parents and the communities surrounding our schools. This has yielded good results as seen in the way our learners are improving in almost all spheres of their education. Quality, inclusiveness, responsibility and competitiveness are at the core of our service to our country,” he said.
Mr Ndwalaza said they have organised annual Director’s Day as well as Speech and Prize Giving Ceremonies, as a way of motivating teachers to continue performing better.
“In our staff appraisals we also award teachers for performing well. That also cements our strategy of using competition as a tool. Our supervision culture has also worked well in that everyone is involved, from Board level down to the Schools. Termly, the Governing Board meets and get to visit all the schools, monitoring and giving advice as well.”
ACT’V group of schools not only prides in academic performance but has also invested in sport and other extra-curricular facilities.
“In terms of sport, physical education and the arts, we have made sure that we provide the best facilities in our schools. In each school it is mandatory that there is a multi-purpose court that accommodates as many ball games as possible. It is our commitment to have standard sporting facilities that will enable children to explore their strengths” said Mr Ndwalaza.
ACT’V group of schools director, Dr Victor Moyo praised their teachers’ dedication to duty, saying it has contributed to the success of our schools. “Credit is due to everyone who has done well to put our schools on the map. I would like to extend gratitude to the teachers who have given their all to make sure our learners get the best education. We look forward to engaging in that gear as we continue to help build the country’s future,” said Dr Moyo.
