ANOTHER suspect has been fingered in the Highlands robbery in which a businessman lost US$100 000 cash at his home two years ago.

Stephen Matanhire, 55, was not asked to plead when he appeared in court charged with robbery.

The court heard that on August 13, 2022, Matanhire, in the company of Shadreck Kabanga Musalonza, Susan Kunyarimwe, Raymond Motikari, Ignatius Bumhira, Darlington Chirenga, Vincent Rafick Magadhi, David Nyakauru and Josephat Muchenje, who have already appeared in court, connived to rob Simon Matanhire.

They went to his house armed with an unknown pistol, a 15-pound hammer and iron bars.

Upon arrival, they unlocked the small gate using duplicate keys.

They confronted the maid, Yolanda Chifamba, who was about to leave the house.

They forced the maid to the cottage where they pretended to harass their accomplice, Motikari, who had supplied them with the information that his employer keeps large sums of money at his residence.

They demanded the keys to the main house from the maid and gained entrance.

They went to Matanhire’s main bedroom door and used a 15-pound hammer to open it and gained entry and stole a safe that had US$100 000, ZAR300 000, a 9mm SARSILMAZ B6 Pistol, 53 rounds ammunition, house title deeds, a Samsung S8 and two iPhones, which all didn’t have SIM cards. They loaded the safe into their getaway car, a silver Nissan NV200, and drove away.

The robbers were captured on CCTV. Matanhire was remanded in custody to November 5.
