Adebayor opens up on family feud

LONDON. – Former English Premier League soccer striker Emmanuel Adebayor has told how his own family repeatedly drove him to the brink of suicide with demands for money. Adebayor has revealed he was driven to suicidal thoughts because of the way in which his family attempted to manipulate money out of him. The former Premier League striker has made a vast fortune for himself during his career, boasting wages in excess of £170 000 per week while at Manchester City and Tottenham.

Having come from an impoverished background in the West African country of Togo, Adebayor’s wealth has seen him become the breadwinner for his extended family and that appears to have lead to a complete breakdown in their relationship. The Togo international, who played for Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham, opened up about his torment after years of silence.

Now 33 and playing in Turkey for Istanbul Basaksehir, he said his “manipulative” family only ever asked for money and were “opposed” to him. Speaking to French magazine So Foot , Adebayor, who also had an ill-fated spell with Crystal Palace, discussed the effect of his family on his mental health. – The Mirror.
