A spokesman for the club said the forward was due to arrive back in Britain yesterday to prepare for the Premier League clash and he would then fly back to join his Togo teammates.
Togo play their first game of the January 19-February 10 tournament in South Africa against Cote d’lvoire on January 22.
Adebayor was persuaded to compete for the nation by Togo president Faure Gnassingbe after they had spoken in meetings over two days, according to a government spokesman.
“I told him Togo football is sick and must find some medicine,” Adebayor said on Wednesday in a French radio interview.
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso took a gamble on the fitness of key striker Alain Traore by including him in their final squad for the African Cup of Nations finals in South Africa on Wednesday.
Traore had been receiving treatment in France for an adductor injury, missing pre tournament preparations.
However, with the deadline for team submissions just hours away coach Paul Putt has put his faith in the Lorient player recovering in time for the opening Group C game against Nigeria in Nelspruit on January 21.
The country’s football federation said five players had been dropped from the preliminary squad.

Tunisia, who are training in the Middle East, play Gabon in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
They have another warmup international against Ghana on Sunday before heading to South Africa.
