PHOTOGRAPHERS using drones have been reminded to adhere to regulations and register with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ).
CAAZ public relations officer, Firstme Vitori, has said drones can be dangerous when operated by untrained personnel.
She said all operators must be eligible for registration in accordance with the Civil Aviation (Remote Pilot Aircraft) Regulations, Statutory Instrument 271 of 2018.
Those who don’t comply face arrest.
“No remotely piloted aircraft shall be registered in Zimbabwe unless such remotely piloted aircraft has been issued with a letter of approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe.
“A remotely piloted aircraft shall not be eligible for registration in Zimbabwe if it is registered outside Zimbabwe; or such remotely piloted aircraft is owned by a person not qualified.
“Foreigners may qualify for temporary importation valid for a maximum of three months, and such registration would be detrimental to the public interest.
“A Zimbabwean citizen or permanent resident of Zimbabwe, companies, organisations, associations, partnerships or institutions whose principal place of business is in Zimbabwe shall be eligible to register a remotely piloted aircraft in Zimbabwe,” said Vitori.
She said no remotely piloted aircraft shall be operated within Zimbabwe, unless it has been registered by CAAZ.
