In an interview, Maboreke said she never got into the industry by default, as music was a calling to her.
“I started singing at a tender age of six and from there I never looked back as I decided to take music as a career,” she said.
Maboreke said her family members were more into music and most of them usually perform in church. “When I was young, my parents were part of the church choir and they used to sing at different church functions,” she said.
She said her parents actually inspired her and she also started singing in the same church.
“I used to enjoy listening to my parents sing in church and even at home.
“This inspired me to an extent that I would join them,” she said.
Maboreke said her passion for music pushed her to join the Avondale Primary School choir.
“While at primary level, I became more active in the school choir and a lot of my teachers encouraged me to become a musician,” she said.
Maboreke said when she completed her primary education, she stopped music for some time. “When I was at secondary level, I left music for about four years as I was concentrating on my education but I could feel that something was missing in my life,” she said.
Soon after completing her secondary education, Maboreke decided to take music as a profession.
“I enrolled with Reps Theatre and that’s where I got all the necessary skill to become a musician,” she said.
Maboreke said while still under training, she decided to come up with her own taste of music that is unique.
That is when she came up with a new genre of music called neosoul.
“I started experimenting with different genres like jazz and soul and in the process I got something exciting,” she said.
After having completed her training in 2006, Maboreke decided to form her own band Invectus.
“In that same year I composed my first single that was titled Roaring Angel,” she said.
Maboreke said her second offering was called All Women and it is doing well on local radio stations.
“When I realised that a lot of people had fallen in love with my music, I never looked back and that is the reason I am working on an album,” she said.
Maboreke said the forthcoming album has a song that was composed by Chidzonga as a dedication to her.
“My husband Munyaradzi has been supportive in my musical career and he has gone to an extent of composing a song for me.
“This song is going to be part of my forthcoming project,” she said.
Maboreke said she had also worked on a collaboration with Derrick Mpofu.
“There is a single that will be released soon and I did it with Derrick.
“I hope it will do well like what my other works have done before,” she said.
