Adventist Church hosts men’s convention to address challenges faced by men

THE Seventh-day Adventist church Entumbane district is hosting a week long Men`s convention meant to discuss various challenges faced by men.

Held under the Adventist Men Organisation (AMO ), the convection which started on Sunday evening will end on Saturday and is being attended by men and youths from both the church and community.

Among the speakers are historian Pathisa Nyathi who presented on the topic “Manhood from an African Perspective” on Sunday evening.

Other presenters include former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Deputy governor Dr Khuphukile Mlambo and Mr Zwelibanzi Ndlovu from Stop to Start organisation who will present this evening on the topic: Man and Wealth and pastors from the church.

In his presentation, Mr Nyathi took the men through how in the African context, a young man graduated into manhood and practices which accompanied various stages of growing up into manhood.

Entumbane district SDA pastor, Dr Yamukelani  Ngwenya said the Men’s Convention was open to all members of the community as it seeks to address unique challenges faced by men.

He said the convention was also a mentorship programme as it deals with what men face on a daily basis.

“The convention is a mentorship programme with the ensuing objectives: to remind the members of the masculine community about their identity in God. Financial Empowerment of Men.Psycho-social support to men as they navigate through life challenges. Sometimes men die in Silence eg suffering from Men’s Health challenges such as Prostate cancer and sexual dysfunctions. It is also an intervention strategy to combat prevailing societal challenges such as Gender Based Violence, and drug, and substance abuse among others,” he said.
