Some of the partners are Girl Empowerment, Children in the Wilderness, Jafuta Foundation, Lubhancho House and Pathways Africa among others with projects including Polio Immunisation Programme, water and sanitation and scholarships for vulnerable children.

The Rotary Club of Victoria Falls president Ms Tafadzwa Machirori said the aim was to fundraise for vulnerable communities.

“The main reason we are having the colour festival is to raise money for projects. We work within the communities trying to help out and there are several areas that we focus on mainly environment, health and hygiene. On these we do tree planting and anti-litter campaigns and also we have built 80 toilets in Chidobe trying to reach 120 households. We offer scholarships to improve literacy and help schools to make reusable sanitary pads and also help communities with boreholes and community gardens,” she said.

Tourism executive Mrs Barbara Murasiranwa-Hughes who is secretary of the Rotary Club said membership is open to any age group.

She said Rotary Club of Victoria Falls was formed in 2002 as part of a district that involves Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique and there are more than 50 clubs in the district.

“We are here to raise some money from the local community and have family time. We normally receive funds where people can contribute and that money is invested and we apply to have it ploughed into communities but we don’t wait for that money, we also fundraise within our communities and all the money raised is directed to benefit the communities,” she said.

President of Elite Club, a juniors for the Rotary Club at Victoria Falls Primary School, Angel Muchekayawa said being a member and participating at events like the Saturday one helps them with an opportunity to gain and increase knowledge and  take responsibility for real life situations.

Victoria Falls Junior council members also attended.

Mrs Liana Machipisa who was with her family said she was excited to enjoy it with her family.

Ms Courtney Pritchard from the Rotaract Club of Victoria Falls said the activities were therapeutic.
