Afghanistan set for four-match series against Chevrons

ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) has confirmed that the senior men’s national team, the Chevrons, will host Afghanistan in Harare later this month, in a tour that promises high drama and fierce competition.

The four-match series, announced yesterday, will be held exclusively at Harare Sports Club. It comprises a one-off Test and three T20 Internationals, pitting Zimbabwe against one of the fastest-emerging sides in world cricket.

ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni said the series would not only challenge the Chevrons but also add another chapter to a rivalry that has intensified with each encounter.

“We are delighted to be hosting Afghanistan once again, this time for a one-off Test followed by three T20Is in Harare. Matches between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan have become increasingly competitive and entertaining, and we are confident this upcoming tour will offer more of the same for our fans.

“Afghanistan have established themselves as a formidable force in world cricket, and we anticipate a tough but thrilling challenge for our team. As always, we encourage our supporters to turn out in their numbers and rally behind our boys as they face quality opposition,” said Makoni.

The tour begins with the Test match from October 20 to 24, marking Zimbabwe’s 10th Test in what has already been a packed 2025 calendar. This year alone, the Chevrons have taken on Ireland, Bangladesh, England, South Africa and New Zealand.

Focus will then shift to the shorter format, with three T20Is scheduled for October 29, October 31 and November 2.

Afghanistan’s return comes less than a year after their previous visit, which featured three T20Is and three ODIs in Harare, followed by a historic two-Test series in Bulawayo over Boxing Day and New Year’s Day at Queens Sports Club.

Meanwhile, the Lady Chevrons will be aiming to seal the series today when they face the United Arab Emirates in the decisive match of their ODI contest. Zimbabwe lead 2–1 in the four-match series, and a win will secure a 3–1 victory. Today’s match begins at 9.30am, with free entry for the public. — @brandon_malvin
