THE stage is set for an explosive weekend of junior football as the CK Nyoni Foundation tournament reaches its climax on Saturday at Tshabalala’s Indlovu Youth Club.
Bankrolled by UK-based Cecil Nyoni, a former Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest player who was born in Bulawayo and raised in Gwanda, the finals will feature Under-10 and Under-12 age groups in what promises to be a showcase of grassroots talent.
In the Under-10 final, Zebra Revolution face River Plate in a contest tipped to be a thriller.
The Under-12 showdown pits Zebra Revolution against Sizinda Pirates, another tie brimming with rivalry and expectation.
“The stage is set for thrilling matches, showcasing the best of grassroots soccer talent. The perennial rivals are set to clash, with Zebras being the favourites to lift the trophy. We all wonder if River Plate FC will pull off an upset, or will Zebras prove their dominance. With regards to the Under-12 final match between Zebra Revolution and Sizinda Pirates, it promises to be an electrifying encounter. The winners will walk away with the coveted CK Nyoni floating trophies,” said the tournament’s secretary general, Roy Phiri.
He added, “We are proud to say that the CKN Foundation tournament has provided a stage for young footballers to showcase their talent and hunger for the sport.”
The day will not only belong to football. Netball teams Sizinda Queens, Khaya Arts, Tshabalala Queens, and Indlovu Queens will battle for their own crown, ensuring the event remains a full community spectacle.
Individual brilliance will also be recognised, with awards for the Most Valuable Player, Golden Boot and Golden Gloves up for grabs.
