PREPARATIONS for hosting a successful Africa Day event in Zimbabwe are going on smoothly, with an organising committee chaired by Egyptian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Salwa Mowafi, now in place.

Africa Day is a celebration of African culture, history, identity and an opportunity to recognise Africa’s achievements.

Africa Day is commemorated on May 25 every year.

This year’s event is set for May 26, since the actual day falls on a Sunday.

Preparations for the Africa Day commemorations were on course with a number of activities lined up from May 26 to 31, 2025.

In an interview, Ambassador Mowafi said the event was expected to bring cultural diversity across the continent.

She said African embassies in Zimbabwe, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (MOFAIT) and other local stakeholders, will host a series of events in honour of this important day that aim to strengthen the bonds of fraternity between African nations and the host country.

Ambassador Mowafi echoed that this year’s Africa Day celebration will be held on May 26th, featuring a range of engaging activities.
