THE Matabeleland Rugby Referees Society will tomorrow hold a one-day Level One refereeing course at Hartsfield Rugby Ground.A total of 25 rugby officials from Bulawayo, Masvingo and Midlands have confirmed participation at the event which is meant to catapult local officials to international standards.
The course will be facilitated by Simbarashe Dangah, the chairman of the Matabeleland referees Society.
Dangah, who is the 2013 National Rugby League Referee of the Year said the seminar would focus on various aspects of the game that comprise game management, principles of play and also matters pertaining to safety measures during the course of the game.
“All phases of the sport will be covered at the seminar, from the principles of play to the game management and safety precautions,” said Dangah.
The Bulawayo-based international rugby referee also said only officials who were conversant with the ever-changing international rugby laws, will be eligible to attend the course.
A similar course would be held in Harare with the Pangolins head coach Abigail Kawonza and Walter Njowa as facilitators.
Level One certificate holders are accredited to officiate for three years using the same documents, and after that they are required to upgrade themselves to the next level.
In order to be upgraded to Level Two, Level One certificates holders should attain an 80% pass at the Rugby Law Examinations which are conducted by the ZRU three times a year.
