AFRICA University’s Vice Chancellor, Reverend Professor Peter Mageto has been inaugurated as the university’s fifth Vice Chancellor, while the institution celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this morning.

Vice Chancellor Rev Prof Mageto replaces the late Prof Munashe Furusa who died in 2021.

Rev Prof Mageto, who hails from Kenya, was interim Vice Chancellor since the death of Prof Furusa.

Rev Prof Mageto was presented with the institution’s symbols which included a mace, medallion and logo.

The inauguration and anniversary celebrations were done at the institution’s campus.

In giving his keynote address, the guest speaker, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Methodist Church Le Bonheur Health Care in the United States of America, Dr Michael Ugwueke said Rev Prof Mageto represents Africa’s bright future.

He encouraged Africa University students to follow Rev Prof Mageto’s footsteps and develop Africa.

“Education is a central ingredient for the development of the society and we as Africans must acknowledge that we are not where we need to be. However, with education and perseverance we will get where we need to be.

“This institution is not only about education but about the larger idea of what it represents in the continent. It represents the spirit of togetherness and oneness as Africans and we should build on that for a better tomorrow for our children,” said Dr Ugwueke.

In giving his inaugural address, Rev Prof Mageto said his inauguration to one of Africa’s most prestigious university was overwhelming.

He extended gratitude to his friends, family and church.

He went on to encourage congregants to never be limited by other people’s limited visions.

“I am grateful to the United Methodist Church for awarding me grants and scholarships for my education. Had it not been for that, I would not be here today,” he said.
