THE preservation of the history of liberation movements should inspire future generations in memorialising the heroic acts of African liberators in shaping the people’s aspirations, Frelimo Secretary General and 2024 general elections Presidential candidate Cde Daniel Fransico Chapo said yesterday.
Cde Chapo toured the Museum of African Liberation in Harare observing the tremendous efforts being made to preserve and conserve the stories of Africans and artefacts of the liberation struggle.
Among the delegation accompanying him was Zimbabwean Ambassador to Mozambique Victor Matemadanda and African think tank Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) chief executive Ambassador Kwame Muzavazi.
Speaking after the tour Cde Chapo said the monument was crucial for the preservation of African history.
“It is crucial, in my opinion, to talk about our history and our relationship to Africa now, but it is also crucial to consider the future, since doing so will help to preserve Africa’s past for future generations.
“That is why I think that it’s a good idea to make this monument, and export the African stories to all parts of the world.”
Cde Chapo said the younger generation had to continue with the process of liberating Africa economically.
“We, the younger generation, need to keep up the economic liberation of Africa. While our fathers battled to secure our political freedom, it is now our responsibility to ensure that Africa is free economically.
Amb Muzavazi said the museum was a bridge connecting Africa.
“As articulated by Cde Chapo the Museum of African Liberation is more than just a physical structure it is a bridge that connects the historical, cultural, and educational aspects of Africa.
“Chapo’s vision extends beyond the physical construction of these monuments as it encompasses the mental liberation of the African people, underlining the need for economic freedom as a crucial aspect of Africa’s development.
“The visit to Zimbabwe served as a poignant reminder of the African people’s shared history, struggles, and aspirations,” he said.
Amb Muzavazi said the visit highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating Africa’s rich heritage while looking towards a future of economic empowerment and development as the new leader of Frelimo,
He said it had set the stage for a renewed partnership between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, grounded in a shared vision for the liberation and prosperity of the African continent.”
