THE vice-president of Africa Strongman Association has endorsed the upcoming Zimbabwe competition set for May 11, at the University of Zimbabwe.
Partson Muzondiwa who is also the president of Zambia Strongman Association said, the competition is the dawn of a new era in the sporting field.
This competition, a new phenomenon on the domestic scene, brings together muscle men, who compete by pulling trucks, lift cars with the judges awarding points for endurance and speed within which tasks are completed.
Zimpapers is among other partners for the event while there is still room for more to come on board.
More than 20 participants are expected to grace the event.
“I am here to support Zimbabwe’s Strongman competition and this is a pioneer event which is marking the beginning of a new era.
“As Africa Strongman we had to make sure we send a representative to see if everything is in line and push the sport within the region and continent at large.
“I am honoured to be here and see the progress Zimbabwe has made and ensure the event happens.
“As a board, we are here to support them as well as bringing a flare from other representatives, Zambia, Kenya, Congo, Rwanda.”
Muzondiwa said they have been competing internationally for the past four years.
“We have competed for the past four years internationally. We have been to the Arnold Classic and I have also seen some Zimbabweans there.
“We have taken it on the strongman front, we have been to the strongest four times now.
Initially, our association has been operational for the past eight years.
“I am not surprised Zimbabwe will take this to the next level,” he said.
Event organizer and founder of Zimbabwe Strongman Association Knowledge Muzengi said everything is shaping up.
“It’s going well and the support we are getting is overwhelming.
“The support of the continental board shows that we are serious about this sport. We are confident since it is the first time in our country.
“Over 10 participants have confirmed their participation and there will also be other competitors from Kenya, Zambia, Congo, and Rwanda, something which is giving us confidence.
“We are excited and the doors are still open for sponsors who want to be part of this.
“Let’s make history together.”
He said the competition is open to everyone.
“It’s open to everyone and if you believe you are the strongest, be there at this competition.
“Men and women, you are all welcome.
“I am sure, people have seen Chido Maenzanise, she is doing well but she only needs support so that we can push this sport to the next level.”
