African superstars to spice up Hifa

The second day will be pregnant with exciting stuff and this year the CABS Opera Gala will feature Senegalese legend Ismael Lo and Liz Ogumbo from Kenya.
Apart from the performances, there will be workshops and other projects and one such is the urban regeneration that will see artists painting murals on flats in Mbare.
Hifa will this year be held under the theme “A Show of Spirit”, which is aimed at celebrating courage, compassion and determination.
“The theme points to both the vibrant nature of Hifa, and the passion and aspiration of our audiences.
“We are celebrating the capacity of the arts to impart courage, compassion and determination, and calling on our audience to boldly embrace the creative force within all of us.
“Our collective spirit is one of pride, energy, and creativity,” said Tafadzwa Simba, head of media liaison at Hifa.
Simba added that the theme was also meant to uplift a spirit of national unity.
“Hifa 2012 aims to raise our spirits, feed our souls and connect to our essential nature as a community.
“The arts have a unique power to reach in to the hearts and minds of all of us, and to remind us of the national spirit that binds us together.
“It seeks to showcase spirited artistic expression from Zimbabwe and from across the globe. At a time when Zimbabweans are calling on their reserves of spirit and drive to face the future with hope and optimism, we hope that Hifa 2012 will honour and advance everything we are as a country and as a people,” he said.
Last year, the annual arts fete was held under the theme “The Engagement Party” which talked about joyful celebration of being.
